Facts

• In the United Kingdom, diapers are called nappies (singular : nappy).
• Cloth diapers were first mass produced by Maria Allen in 1887.
• In 1946, an American housewife named Marion Donovan invented the "Boater" where she used shower curtain material as a waterproof covering for cloth diapers. She later introduced the use of plastic snaps to replace safety pins.
• In 1949, Stanley Mason, America's most prolific inventor patented the world's first disposable and pin-free diapers that were contoured to fit a baby's bottom. Granola bars, squeezable ketchup bottle, dental floss dispensers, plastic microwave cookware, heated pizza boxes were just a few of his hundred over inventions and fifty-five patents.
• During the Elizabethan times (i.e. the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in England from 1558 to 1603), babies were treated to a fresh diaper only after four days!
• The National Association of Diapering Services in the United States has a list of diapering service company in at least 42 states.
• A diaper cake is an inedible cake made up of diapers. A cardboard platter is usually used as the cake base. Each diaper is rolled up and secured with rubber bands, yarn or ribbons. Afterwhich, each of the rolled-up diaper is placed vertically next to each other to form a tier and secured onto the platter with adhesive tape. Pacifiers, baby bottles, teething rings, bibs, rattles, combs, brushes and soft toys are usually used to decorated the cake.

  The number of diapers needed to complete a cake depends on the number of tiers you want the cake to have. A general guideline would be :
